A Life Spent Playing with Jazz’s Greats

Chico Hamilton has played with Charles Mingus, Lionel Hampton, Duke Ellington, and Count Basie. At 85, Mr. Hamilton will be playing at this weekend’s Charlie Parker Jazz Festival – two days of free music in Marcus Garvey Park and Tompkins Square Park.

Events: Chico Hamilton will be playing Saturday, August 25
Marcus Garvey Park, 124th Street (at Mt. Morris Park)
Tickets are FREE

Fascinating-- what an amazing life. How truly underappreciated real jazz and real jazz musicians are.

What's going to happen when all our jazz greats are gone? We will be left with the tapwater Kenny G and the reactionary Wynton Marsalis representing this great American music?

Thank goodness Zorn is only in his '50s...

Your interview of Chico Hamilton was absolutely superb. Your command of subject matter is astounding. Your framing of questions is pointed and open-ended. It is refreshing that there is most often a first-level of follow-up. You are the best and my favorite commentator. Keep up the good work.
