    Hello,

I posted a submission but did not receive a confirmation email. Were verifications sent?

    Thank you,

    Lisa

**Hi Lisa, no verifications were sent, but if you posted the submission, we did get it. Thanks for submitting. -Lopate Show producers

  • [5] Lopate Show producers from WNYC June 25, 2007 - 10:40AM

All entries submitted on Friday 6/22 will be considered, even if they came in after the 12:00 noon deadline. We apologize for the confusion over the due date.

    Thanks to everyone who submitted.

  • [6] Paula B June 25, 2007 - 06:57PM

Can you tell me if the winners will be discussed in the first or second hour? I will rearrange my at home work schedule in order to hear all of the discussion. Thank you.

    Paula

    **Lopate staff responds:

Hi Paula, the discussion will air in the second hour on Thurs. June 28 - from approximately 1:20 to 2:00.

  • [7] amy m June 26, 2007 - 10:38AM

    Hi,

I was wondering who will be discussing the essays--the two Mr. Lopates, the two and the winners, others?

    Amy

    **Lopate staff responds:

Dear Amy, the plan is that Leonard & Phillip along with a few of the winners will be on-air on Thursday from about 1:20 to 2:00.

  • [8] Meggan June 26, 2007 - 01:57PM

By what date and how will you notify the winners?

    **Lopate Show responds:

Phillip has chosen 20 winners out of over 200 submissions. A list of the winners will be available on our website at 1:00 on Thursday. Most of the winners will not be notified in advance.

  • [9] Kitty Chen June 27, 2007 - 01:53PM

Oh dear. Because no time was specified, I assumed that a June 22 deadline meant until the end of June 22, ie, midnight. I think I submitted my essay at 11:30 pm. Do you know if it was considered?

    **Lopate Show staff responds:

Essays submitted after 12:00 noon on 6/22 were accepted, because of the confusion over the due date.

  • [10] Kristine from NYC June 27, 2007 - 03:48PM

The Lopate Show staff response to post #8 was cut off in the middle of the second sentence. Please post the complete response, if possible. Thanks.

  • [11] Kristine from NYC June 27, 2007 - 03:56PM

Sorry, I meant the third sentence of #8.

  • [12] Nick from New Jersey June 27, 2007 - 04:35PM

Here's hoping the answer to Kristin's question isn't "Most of the...winners have already been notified." Is that it?

  • [13] Nick from New Jersey June 27, 2007 - 05:38PM

Look like worst fears were not realized -- most winners WON'T be notified before essays are posted on Thursday. Thanks for clarifying.

  • [14] Paul J. Schaefer from Clinton Coprners, New York June 28, 2007 - 09:19AM

If I haven't been called yet, does that mean I'm not one of the top five?

  • [15] Mike Choi from Northern New Jersey June 28, 2007 - 01:28PM

When and how did LL lose the accent that PL still possesses? =)

  • [16] Joel Friedland from Forest Hills June 28, 2007 - 02:14PM

    Most people write using paragraphs.

Please, please, when posting essays in the future, allow people to paragraph their words. It makes it easier to read.

These essay contest winners are extremely difficult to read without paragraphing.

I doubt that the format presented online by you here was the same format presented to Leonard Lopate.

  • [17] David from New York City and Montclair, New Jersey June 28, 2007 - 02:17PM

    Hi,

I am disappointed that there wasn't one

story of an ordinary relationship failing

in an ordinary way. No story of a suitor

who met someone they loved and lost them

    to someone else.

I wonder if in the other essays there is one

that I would have preferred. Since there is a top 20 selected, please post them all. Or,

at least, email me the other 15.

    David

    **Lopate staff responds:

Hello David. Thanks for your interest. Unfortunately, due to time and space constraints, we can only publish the top 5 winners, and can only list the names and essay titles of the other 15 winners. We also cannot e-mail any essay texts to listeners. Sorry!

  • [18] Michael Stone from Santa Monica June 28, 2007 - 02:41PM

This is in response to Joel and David.

Joel: I had the chance to upload a Word document but the first papragraph is a doozy. If you can get through it, the rest is noramlly paragraphed. Otherwsie, you are correct, it would have been an unparagraphed html document.

David: I think my essay is of two ordianry people having a relationship end in a fairly ordianry way, but that is my opinion.

    Thanks,

    Mike

  • [19] paul from brooklyn June 29, 2007 - 09:57AM

whaddya mean "space constraints"? you guys can't sqeeze a few more text files into your fancy website? why tease everybody by publishing the titles of the essays but not let us read 'em? after asking people to spill their blood out for you over the last few weeks, that's the least you can do!

  • [20] EQ from Westchester July 12, 2007 - 08:44AM

Yeah, c'mon! How can I brag to all my friends when only my name is posted? Throw us runners-up a bone, here!
