    Genius and Madness

August Wilson has been called the Chekhov of 20th century African-American experience. On today’s show, we talk with the stars and producer of August Wilson’s final play, Radio Golf. Then, sculptor Richard Serra talks about his retrospective at MoMA. Plus, British bad boy chef Marco Pierre White talks about genius and madness in the kitchen. And we start the show off with two Underreported features. First, an update on political repression in Ethiopia. Then, fighting AIDS in Soweto (in Johannesburg, South Africa).

Underreported: Ethiopian Protesters Could Face Death Penalty

38 political protesters in Ethiopia have just been found guilty of charges ranging from armed rebellion to "outrage against the constitution." The charges date back to 2005, when hundreds of thousands of Ethiopians took part in demonstrations against alleged fraud and vote-rigging by Ethiopia's Prime Minister Meles Zenawi. Now, the 38 protesters could face the death penalty. Meles Zenawi is a favorite of western donors and is often considered a model leader in Africa, but many observers say he's a serious human rights violator and is creating a climate of fear and suppression. Lynn Fredriksson is Advocacy Director for Africa for Amnesty International USA. She's also a consultant for human rights groups in Africa and Southeast Asia, as well as diaspora groups working for human rights in Africa and the Middle East.

Innovations in HIV/AIDS Treatment in Soweto

Glennis Mabuza, aka "Mama G," is a nurse who has helped to transform the way HIV/AIDS is thought about and dealt with in Soweto. She's community project manner with HIV South Africa (HIVSA), and has created psychosocial programs to help Sowetans deal with their AIDS status. She spoke last night at an event with former President Bill Clinton, where both were being honored by the American Jewish World Service. She'll tell us how efforts to increase ARV (anti-retroviral)treatment has affected her community.
