This sounds like a fantastic book. I'm a woman in my forties, and I will buy a copy for myself, one for my younger brother, and one for his 2 daughters.

I wish I'd had this when I was a young girl--I had to make do with 'Harriet the Spy', though that was good as far as it went.

This guest is such a sexist. Why does he think that girls don't want to have "secret" information or want to be expert in something? Where has he lived for the last 100 years?

I applaud the approach in the ad that WNYC is doing with a female exclaiming the assets of the book (a premium) , but this author is undermining it completely. I was so curious, and am now utterly turned off.

    To Joanne,

I heard the interview with the author. He was clear that these activities could (and probably should be) be done with girls. Joanne, please try to lighten up.

I like the fact that the Igguldens included some military history, but I wonder why the basics of shooting were left out? What is the harm in reminding boys about gun safety and forming a basic sight picture?
