Roger Buck, a physicist at the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory of Columbia University, explains why a 40-mile-long magmatic crack recently opened in Ethiopia.

Roger Buck will be giving a lecture called From Satellites to Camels: The Biggest Magmatic Rift Event tonight, Oct. 2nd, from 6:30pm-8:45pm at the Explorers Club at 46 East 70th Street. The event is open to the public and tickets are sold at the door on a first come, first served basis, beginning at 6pm. More information at explorers.org
