    Parallel Universes

We start today’s show with an exploration of some of the strange new frontiers in space--like extra dimensions and parallel universes. Then, we’ll learn about the East German writer Irmtraud Morgner as part of our summer Underappreciated Literature series. And Toni Colette and director Patrick Stettner tell us about “The Night Listener”--their new thriller about a late night radio host. Plus: 20-time Wimbledon champ Martina Navratilova shares her advice on how to get in great shape.

Stranger Than Science Fiction?

Theoretical physicist Lisa Randall is an expert on particle physics, string theory, and cosmology. In Warped Passages she describes some of the bizarre new concepts being used to describe the universe…from three dimensional sink-holes to parallel universes and hidden dimensions.

Underappreciated Literature: Irmtraud Morgner

The East German writer Irmtraud Morgner won her country’s National Prize for Literature in 1978. But she’s practically unknown in the US. Today, only her epic novel The Life and Adventures of Trobadora Beatrice as Chronicled by her Minstrel Laura has been translated into English. Professor Silke von der Emde of Vassar joins us for today’s edition of our Underappreciated Literature series.
