  • Proud Traditions

Sydney Pollack describes his first feature-length documentary—about his longtime friend, the renowned architect Frank Gehry. Plus, the first-ever English translation of the classic French cookbook La Bonne Cuisine. And we’ll start the show off with a look at Bruce Springsteen’s new album, We Shall Overcome--a tribute to American folk music.

Springsteen's Roots

Music writer Alan Light and singer-songwriter Josh Ritter discuss Bruce Springsteen’s new album of traditional folk songs, "We Shall Overcome." The album is a tribute to American roots music, and the influence of Pete Seeger.

French Home Cooking

Paul Aratow translated the first-ever English edition of the 1927 classic French cookbook La Bonne Cuisine. He'll tell us about the book's approach to French home cooking, and explain why Julia Child considered it a staple of her kitchen.

Sydney Pollack on Frank Gehry

Sydney Pollack claims to know nothing about documentary filmmaking, and nothing about architecture. Nevertheless, his latest film is a feature-length documentary about one of the most famous architects in the world: Frank Gehry.

Please Explain: Eco-Labels

The Leonard Lopate Show

Your broccoli, shampoo, and air conditioner might bear labels declaring them to be organic, cruelty-free, or energy efficient, but what do those labels mean and are they true? Dr. Urvashi Rangan, Project Director for Consumer Reports' GreenerChoices.org and Consumers Union’s Senior Scientist for Policy Initiatives, and Dara O'Rourke, founder and CEO of GoodGuide.com, took a look at what eco-labels indicate, how standards are set, and what they mean for consumers and manufacturers around the world.
