Karl Malden

Friday, November 07, 1997

Karl Malden was one classy character actor. During the course of his 60-year career, he won an Academy Award for his portrayals of the rough-hewn Everyman, with a bulbous nose. Malden once said he was determined "to be No. 1 in the No. 2 parts I was destined to get." He died recently at the age of 97. But you can listen to his discussion with Leonard Lopate from November 1997, about his favorite roles, which included starring with Marlon Brando in "A Streetcar Named Desire" and "On the Waterfront."
