Karl Malden was one classy character actor. During the course of his 60-year career, he won an Academy Award for his portrayals of the rough-hewn Everyman, with a bulbous nose. Malden once said he was determined "to be No. 1 in the No. 2 parts I was destined to get." He died recently at the age of 97.
