    Weathering the Storm

Guest host Philip Gourevitch talks to Ambassador Paul Bremer about his 14 months in charge of Iraq. Then, Woody Guthrie’s daughter Nora will be here with a look at the first-ever collection of her father’s artwork. And Andrew Delbanco shares his new biography of Herman Melville.

My Year in Iraq

Ambassador L. Paul Bremer III was put in charge of supervising Iraq’s transition to democracy. He’s here today to talk about the challenges he faced, and to respond to critics who blame him for much of what went wrong in Iraq…from the strengthening insurgency to the increase in casualties. His new memoir is My Year in Iraq.

Music: “Raining Oil,” “Battery Run” and “Full Chemical Gear” from the Jarhead Soundtrack, composed by Thomas Newman; a Universal Classics release

Bound for Glory

Woody Guthrie was one of the best-known and most prolific American songwriters. And while nearly everyone has heard his songs (especially “This Land is Your Land”), not many people are familiar with his art. His daughter Nora Guthrie joins us today with a new collection of over 300 works by her father. The new collection is titled Woody Guthrie Artworks.
