Sister Simone Campbell Speaks at the DNC

Thursday, September 06, 2012 - 12:08 PM

Sister Simone Campbell, executive director of Network, a Catholic social justice organization, addressed the Democratic National Convention on Wednesday. She was one of the Nuns on the Bus, and she spoke with guest host Julie Burstein in August about her advocacy work for the poor and why she was critical of Paul Ryan's budget. At the convention she didn't expressly endorse President Barack Obama, but she did speak out against the Romney-Ryan budget, saying it would hurt struggling families.

I continue to be embarrassed by so called nuns who stopped being religious a long time ago. They are not women religious, they are traitors to the church and Sister Simone is one of the biggest traitors. The Catholic population in the United States can elect a president if they vote in a block. Sister's rhetoric gives Catholic Democrats the excuse they need to justify voting for Obama. She is being used as a pawn in his assault on Catholicism.

Just as Catholic as you are, Ed from Larchmont

Sister Simone Campbell's presence may confuse YOU but there are millions of Catholics who do not need Ed from Larchmont's guidance.

As for the holiness of the church, how about all the molested children and other abuses of power perpetrated then covered up by Catholic authorities! I've had it up to my eyeballs with Catholics moralizing. What a bunch of hypocrites! Wake up! It's OVER!

In my eyes, you are not a nun that I could respect. Infact your not even religious. The devil is in your heart so go back to the Bible and ask God for help-don't make up your own rules. R

Sister Simone Campbell gives the impression by her presence at the DNC that it's OK for a Catholic to vote for President Obama.

Here is a man who does not protect the unborn, supports same sex marriage, and is limiting religious freedom.

These are intrinsic evils that a Catholic can not support, prior to getting to any other issues.

So, her presence confuses Catholics. One has to recall Sister Keenan's role in passing the Health Care Law, over which the Church in the U.S. is suing the admninistration. Not a help.

One has to note that Sister Simone's and her governing body is being encouraged by the Vatican to return to their religious life and vows. As a sister, she is a consecrated lay person. Her first task, and that of her community, is to witness to the holiness of the Church and of Mary. She does not do this by fighting with the Vatican, and her presence at the DNC did great harm.
