Guesthost Elliott Forrest spoke with Damien Echols. One of the Memphis Three, Echols was convicted of murdering 3 girls in 1993 and served almost 20 years of his sentence for a crime he didn't commit. He told us what he's been reading, watching and eating since his release.

What have you read or seen over the past year (book, play, film, etc…) that moved or surprised you?

          The movie “Lawless.”  I’m normally a horror movie fan, and watch little else.  I’m not up on a lot of current affairs, so I had never even heard of the movie, and just went to see it on a whim.  Turned out to be incredible.

What are you listening to right now?

          A lot of Danzig.  I love his music.  It inspires me, pushes me, drives me.  It’s also very dark and sensual.  Seduction put to a driving beat.

What’s the last great book you read?

          “Monsters” by John Michael Greer and anything by Michelle Belanger.  Their books helped me tremendously when I was on death row, so I like to go back and reread them from time to time to keep it fresh in my memory.

What’s one thing you’re a fan of that people might not expect?

          Pro wrestling.  It’s a family tradition in our house.  Also huge fan of the singer Rob Thomas, and Martha Stewart Magazine.

What’s your favorite comfort food?

          Tacos.  I eat tacos at least once every two days.
