As someone who has family member with this exact illness I thought the movie did something that I have never seen before: addressed an issue people try and hide head on. I thought the movie was wonderful. I had no problem with taking a heavey subject and trying to make it lighter. At least it gives a glimpse into an illness which most people know nothing about!

Silver linings was excellent: if we can't smile and tense up in the same movie then what are emotional connections all about. Little did we know of David's connection to mental illness thru his family and the poignant way he dealt with it. Bravo. This director has it downer regardless of the Oscar decisions. A great interview.

We did not think the problem with the movie was black humor or making fun of people. It was just a plain old badly made movie.

My family is with licnyc - we couldn't even sit through the whole show. Horrible!
PS - the nominations for this year's awards were very poor.

lincyc from queens, some comedy is dark. The movie is bitter sweet like life. The movie wasn't making fun of the characters, instead it showed them for what they are, fallible humans.

Wow. I had a diametrically opposite opinion of this movie. I simply loved it and its treatment of family and handling of mental illness. There is a transparency to how all of the connections play into the characters history and healing. The strong writing was reminiscent of Arthur Miller's ability to show the truth on the precipice of tragedy. Jennifer Lawrence is my favorite young actor and Bradley Cooper finally channels his awkward energy in an authentic and rewarding role.

We hated this movie. The characters were struggling with terrible mental illness and the audience was laughing through out the movie. There was nothing funny about this. Watching his parents get beaten was not a fun time, And then the end everything is wonderful because the two people found each other, like somehow finding a partner just erases your mental illness. It was an awful horrible movie,
