Kurt Eichenwald recounts the first 500 days after 9/11, looking closely at the decisions, deceptions, and delusions of the 18 months that changed the world forever, as leaders raced to protect their citizens in the wake of 9/11. In 500 Days: Secrets and Lies in the Terror Wars, he moves from the Oval Office to Number 10 Downing Street, from Guantanamo Bay to the CIA headquarters, from the al-Qaeda training camps to the torture chambers of Egypt and Syria. He reveals new information from the terror wars, including never before reported details about warrantless wiretapping, the anthrax attacks and investigations, and conflicts between Washington and London.

There were a number of individuals with political and financial clout,
some within Bush I and Bush II administrations that wanted America to
attack Iraq.
9/11 came right on time for them.
If one is talking about failures, to ignore the pivotal role of the media in shaping public opinion and providing a shield for the Bush Administration is a glaring oversight in this discussion. Since this writer seems bent on framing this as a screenplay rather than recent history, The New York Times would undoubtedly be a leading character in his drama.
Mr. Eichenwald's account of Sandy Berger's strong warning to Condoleeza Rice is particularly ironic in light of her remark that the attacks could not have been foreseen.
Bush's invocation of the Biblical prophecy relating to Gog and Magog while talking to Chirac is pretty shocking. I must say, I now love Jacques Chirac.
Here's a little bit of detail on it:

Is it true that the Saudi Arabian ambassador flew Bin Laden relatives out of the US a few days after 9/11? This is despite the closed airspace at that time.
Jesus Christ, whether something (the speculation on American involvement in 9/11) is despicable or not is not measure of whether or not it's true. What kind of non-thinking is that?
This interview has a very light hearted tone. Funny for today, what fun.
"People in Washington can't conspire to have lunch" - good one.
What does Kirk think of the information from the documentary, "Loose Change"?
It seems unlikely the steel towers would fall on into their own footprints unless demolished with strategic explosions. The lobbys were reported to have looked like a bomb went off prior to the collapses. The pentagon apparently only had a hole 16' wide were an airliner was supoosed to have entered it.
Generals always tend to re-fight the last war. AFter 9/11 all our attention has turned to fighting terrorism, especially now with UAV drones. Meanwhile, Iran is building long range ballistic missiles. Do we have a credible anti-ballistic missile system in the US? Is Washington or New York prepared for a ballistic missile, or perhaps even one coming from the South, from say Venezuela?
Would Mr. Eichenwald please clarify the record on the Clinton Administration's decision not to assassinate Bin Laden prior to 9/11, and what was the nature of their advice to the Bush administration regarding the nature of the threat that Al Quaida posed?
If Barack Obama runs true to form, he and his Justice Department will try to prosecute Eichenwald.
Concerning the TSA and "improvements" to security, I wonder how much influence corporations had in shaping the laws we now have. How big is the "security" business these days in comparison to pre-9/11.
