Baratunde Thurston is the biggest racist I can't believe he's on NPR everyday giving his take, it's only one sided, you can almost guess what he's going to say next. He hasn't mentioned the cost of all the Obama initutives how they will be paid for in the future, the near and distant future. If he's going to blab on he should hit on important things like that.

Pulling yourself up by your bootstraps used to be something that was remarked on with admiration, an exceptional thing to do. Lately it's more like, "Why didn't you just pull yourself up by your bootstraps?," as though anyone could do it & what's wrong with you if you didn't, even as circumstances make it harder & harder.

After listening to the Republicans' delusions, I am relieved to hear the Democrats discussing reproductive rights, labor, education, and other important issues. Are they going to be discussing global warming during the convention?

TomP thank you. At 56 (raised catholic ) and most of my friends are still catholic (go to church every sunday kind of catholic) they would never vote for Mitt Romney. No woman with daughter would. They won't share that info with their husbands or priests though. Ed from Larchmont, your dead wrong.

I don't think any "one upping" is taking place - truths are being told...exaggerated perhaps but still.

Mitt Romney was a millionaire from the moment he was born, as was Paul Ryan. So to hear _any_ Republican hail the 'rough' early years is absurd. That anyone would swallow the lie is pathetic.

As for Obama's claims about his 'community service' in Chicago. Check with some of the people who worked with him then — he was an opportunistic climber then, too.

And with regard to health care, we now know that Obama never had any intention of doing 'the right thing.' He privately opposed the public option exactly as he was publicly endorsing it.

Where's the snark now that the Democrats have to move from one venue to another because of a storm? Anyone remember the snark when Tampa got hit by a hurricane?

I consider myself to the left of the Democrats and have been disappointed Obama has not been more progressive over the last few years, but after watching only one night of the Democratic convention I feel excited to vote once again for Obama. I'm also going to donate money today after watching Michelle Obama's inspiring speech. She's an incredible role model for her daughters and all women.

Ed, are you going to post this same diatribe all over wnyc? If only it were true. Come on, abortion was a silent issue until after the 2008 election. That's when republicans lost big, so they went local and started putting abortion up initives all over local ballots and in local law books. They ginned this topic up from the dead, cuz they knew they could do nothing on the federal level.

Women have an egg come down their tubes every month. Almost every woman, every month. Should they all be brought to term? How many people do you want on this crowded planet. We're already short of resources. We need fewer people, not more.

But if you go by catholic teaching from centuries ago when the flu could wipe out an entire population, then you're living in the past. The population's survival is no longer in question the way it was when catholics wrote their bible. Please, come into the 21st century. Every egg does not need a law to bring it to term.

There are two battles going on: the Democrats vs. the Republicans over the economy, etc. The other is the Democratic Party against the Catholic Church. The Democratic Party now has abortion on demand and same sex marriage as platform planks, and they've taken on the Catholic Church's right to religious liberty and is being sued by the Church.

I don't see how any Catholic can vote for him. And if they don't vote for him, he will lose.
