Her biography, The Richest Woman in America: Hetty Green in the Gilded Age, revives a rarely mentioned queen of American finance, who, at the time of her death in 1916, was worth at least 100 million dollars, equal to more than 2 billion dollars today.

Quakers were among the detractors of slavery. In fact Hetty Green, her entire family, and almost ALL Quakers were staunch supporters of freeing the slaves. Hey Anonymous from Becky: Maybe before you start making wild accusations you could check your facts?
Her family were Quakers from New Bedford, MA. Seems the "slaves" were the sailors on her father's whaling fleet.
Rich on money earned on the backs of slaves no doubt.
