Jeffrey Toobin takes a close look at the Supreme Court and its relationship to the White House. His new book The Oath: The Obama White House and the Supreme Court documents how, from the moment Chief Justice John Roberts blundered through the Oath of Office at Barack Obama's inauguration, the relationship between the Supreme Court and the White House has been confrontational. Barack Obama and John Roberts are completely at odds on almost every major constitutional issue.

jgarbuz from Queens: Supposedly, it was not Shakespeare but Dickens who popularized the phrase "The Law is an ass." (I actually thought it was Mark Twain.)

The phrase "the law is an ass" was popularized by Charles Dickens' Oliver Twist, when the character Mr. Bumble is informed that "the law supposes that your wife acts under your direction". Mr. Bumble replies "If the law supposes that ... the law is a [sic] ass—a idiot. If that's the eye of the law, the law is a bachelor; and the worst I wish the law is that his eye may be opened by experience—by experience."
This is the most lame set of comments I have ever seen on this station's site. wtf are the smart people??
The Law is whatever lawyers say it is, and Shakespeare said that the "Law is an ass" and that first thing, we should shoot all the lawyers. We should bring back Trial by Combat. Let the Supreme Court justices duke it out, and the side that beats the other side's brains in gets its opinion made into Constitutional Law.
Toobin making predictions- really he should stick to weather forcasting.
Roberts is a political hack...
Will corporation be able to apply for citizenship?
Can Roberts continued use of 'stare decisis' in his confirmation be reconciled with current activism in a way that shows him to have been honest before?
It's the Court which brought on great changes against the will of the people, such as Roe V. Wade for example. It's only natural that Conservatives want to roll back some of the more onerous decisions of the Court.
Hey, Leonard -
I called you on Inauguration Day to complain about flubbing the oath and you poo-pooed me. Told you so....
