The phrase "the law is an ass" was popularized by Charles Dickens' Oliver Twist, when the character Mr. Bumble is informed that "the law supposes that your wife acts under your direction". Mr. Bumble replies "If the law supposes that ... the law is a [sic] ass—a idiot. If that's the eye of the law, the law is a bachelor; and the worst I wish the law is that his eye may be opened by experience—by experience."

The Law is whatever lawyers say it is, and Shakespeare said that the "Law is an ass" and that first thing, we should shoot all the lawyers. We should bring back Trial by Combat. Let the Supreme Court justices duke it out, and the side that beats the other side's brains in gets its opinion made into Constitutional Law.

It's the Court which brought on great changes against the will of the people, such as Roe V. Wade for example. It's only natural that Conservatives want to roll back some of the more onerous decisions of the Court.
