This Ring is the worst production and the efforts made by the leadership to defend it shows that they realize that this was a multi- million dollar mistake. The above commentator is correct. Why doesn't Mr. Gelb avail himself to critics? Because he cannot accept criticism and fundamentally, he knows he must defend what cost so much. The documentary is just part of the propoganda. Sad.

The stage computer seemed to come under somewhat better control as the season went on, but it was still a ridiculous obstacle to the operas from the get-go. Faithful audiences shouldn't be forced to concentrate on whether the scenery is working.
