Gene Kelly’s widow, film historian Patricia Ward Kelly, discusses the Film Society of Lincoln Center's special 23-film salute to the great dancer/choreographer, “Invitation to the Dance: Gene Kelly.” The series runs July 13–26 and explores Gene Kelly’s role in creating a particularly American dance form and his innovative use of cinematography, choreography, and animation.

Enjoying the resurgence of interest in Gene Kelly. As an avid watcher of musicals since early childhood, Gene Kelly was the only male dancer in my eyes. So handsome with so much personality, sinuously athletic with a wonderful range of references.
Only today realized through your guest, Patricia Ward Kelly, that yes Gene Kelly was a dancer for the masses.
Did Gene and his brother once run a dance studio in Bergen County, NJ? If so, what became of his brother?
I can't help thinking we'll never know how many great films the public was robbed of by the stupid agist attitude that kept Gene Kelly & the others from having the chance to direct late in their careers.
Leonard can you ask Mrs. Kelly what the name of the only film in which her late husband and Gene's brother were filmed dancing?
I loved Xanadu! What was the problem? It was nice, upbeat movie.
