Swedish crime thriller writers Arne Dahl, Anders Roslund, and Borge Hellstrom discuss their work and the specific culture of Scandinavian mystery writing. Dahl talks about Misterioso, the first novel in his Intercrime series, which follows Detective Paul Hjelm in the suburbs of Stockholm. Roslund and Hellstrom, are the authors of Three Seconds and Cell 8, both about Detective Superintendent Ewert Grens.

while in the copenhagen Nat'l. museum a few yrs. ago I was shocked to see all the personal weaponry on view, swords and hammers that everyone seemed to carry in the Viking era and afterward. also on view was a bog-mummy which i believe represented a human sacrifice from the 17th Cent.

Q: do these writers look to this violent past as part of a Scandinavian history that is generally ignored is what are now very orderly and civilized societies?
