Glenda: Gary Oldman is not going to win the Oscar. What is interesting, though, is that an actor of his caliber has never even been nominated before—not even in the "Best Supporting Actor" category.

The Academy Awards is not about artistic achievement—nor was it ever meant to be. It's just the movie industry's biggest publicity stunt.

I assume many of his fans are betting on him to win the Oscar.

I am NOT a fan, because I enjoy a FILM, rather than an actor's work. To me, the film will always be bigger than the actor and the character. It's nothing demeaning, but I enjoy 'Avatar' as much as 'The Social Network'. I don't think in terms of actors and the characters they portray. Therefore, I don't expect him to win the Oscar, and I wonder if , according to many of Oldman's fans, the world will actually come to an end if he doesn't win the Oscar?

Quick comment - as a Brit living in New York - had to smile when Gary said "aluminium" because to my ears he actually said it with an American accent (as he hinted he might) rather than British - which would be "alyoominium" as opposed to "aloominium"

Please tell Mr. Oldman that I love his work - 'bad characters' and good.

Gary's performance in "True Romance" was amazing, playing a truly frightening drug dealer.

I'm a long (long!) time fan who's absolutely thrilled at the attention and accolades Gary Oldman is finally receiving. Some of us have known since Meantime he was great! Tinker Tailor is especially poignant, I think, because there's a sense of stillness not seen in almost all of his other roles. It's a living embodiment of the old adage that "still waters run deep" - in Oldman's case, very, very deep. No other actor alive - nominated and not - can capture the various shades and nuances of human emotion and experience the way he can.

I think Gary Oldman is the greatest film actor ever. (Yes, even greater than Brando and De Niro.) He also wrote and directed one of the greatest independent films—"Nil by Mouth."
