Rufus Wainwright and Martha Wainwright perform songs by Kate McGarrigle live in our studio. A two-night tribute to Kate McGarrigle will be held at Town Hall, May 12-13. It features performances by Martha and Rufus Wainwright, and her sister Anna, as well as Emmylou Harris, Antony Hegarty, Norah Jones, and Teddy Thompson, among others. Profits from the concert will go toward creating the Kate McGarrigle Sarcoma Research Fund.

God, this brings me back. The McCarrigle sisters were like a spring-fed brook, watering the wild violets and skunk cabbage. And to be followed in the next generation by two such talents -!! Thank you very much for this segment, and I'll be looking for the re-release.
The interview and singing are extremely beautiful and touching and I feel sad that someone feels the need to be critical in the comments. This interview is about Martha and Rufus' mother, Kate, who passed away. It helps to raise awareness for her and others who have and are suffering from cancer; as well as celebrate her life and songs. Thanks for sharing this interview and making it available to all!
CL - you admit that you're not a professional singer, but somehow are entitled to criticize a professional singer's voice? it's as much as admitting you don't know what you're talking about, so don't talk.
those who can't do usually criticize.
Answering my own question:
Nonesuch to Release "Tell My Sister," Three Discs of Music by Kate & Anna McGarrigle, on May 3

Thanks.
Anyone know the title of the new 3-CD compilation of the McGarrigle songs that was mentioned?
Really looking forward to these concerts.
re: "thatgirl" comment--
Oh, I get it. Professional singers-- and I am not one (so I don't know what your "glass houses" reference can mean)-- shouldn't ever be critiqued, especially if their voices are problematic. I'd suggest that you "give it a rest," but apparently that is your default cerebral state.
Beautiful songs.
In response to Rufus' comments, there is a rare form of breast cancer, IBC, that doesn't receive attention/funding for research, as it mainly afflicts younger women.
love to rufus and martha for keeping these songs, and kate's memory alive--aside from their own fine work!
CL--give it a rest. glass houses and all that.
thank you for the beautiful music and tribute. Both of these artists, as well as their mother, have just gained another fan.
the entire Wainright-Mcgarrigle-Roche family circle of musicians are incredible and the most underrated and the most creative performers of my generation.
Lovely song, but Rufus is flat.
The vibe in their interview is so strange- everyone is competing to be heard! There's such a tremendous amount of talking over one another. Weird.
The Wainwrights sound incredible together. A beautiful alternative to the Bin Laden coverage.
Kate McGarrigle was a wonderful songwriter and we're lucky to have those songs. Rufus, however, is insanely overrated.
From this first song that I hear, I recognize echoes of the legendary French Canadian author-composer Felix Leclerc. Can you ask the Wainwrights if they think their mom was influenced by him? Thank you.
you are breaking my heart
Come on now, leave this for sound check. Please.
