Big in China

Wednesday, March 16, 2011

Blues artist and journalist Alan Paul chronicles his journey to the top of the rock charts in China. In Big in China, he tells how, when his wife was offered a job as the China bureau chief for the Wall Street Journal, he saw it as an opportunity to shake up their suburban life. Dear Alan,
It does appear that either my latest Email messages are not reaching you or you are too busy to reply, which I would understand, but I would be grateful if you would confirm receipt of the messages below. If I don’t receive a reply I’ll assume they are not reaching you, or there is no further interest on your part.
Kindest regards,
Albie

Dear Alan
As indicated in my last email, copy below, I plan to be in Philadelphia the ladder part of February and would like to arrange a meeting with you in Maplewood or Philadelphia, Would you be available any day between February 22 -26 ? I am fairly flexible about these dates as it is early enough to be able to change my itinerary at either end to suit your availability. Therefore I would be grateful to receive your reply as soon as possible.
Kindest regards,
Albie Serianni

Albert

Thanks again for the note. I am traveling this week and will look this all over when I can.

There is certainly some good material to work with. It I'm. It sure I can take on a project like this right now. I might have some ideas though.

My deepest condolences on the loss of your daughter.

All the best

Alan

Thank you. I was indeed very fortunate. I also made a lot of my own luck by getting out and pushing.

Many, many expats in Beijing have full, fulfilling happy lives in my experience.

Kids all thriving in Maplewood, even while missing China. Thanks for the interest.

leonard,

alan sounds like the luckiest expat i have ever heard in china. but luck doesn't go to anyone.

hope their kids are well-adjusted now in maplewood.

leonard, would love to hear what you would think if you ever make a trip to china. a work trip would be great, not a leisure one.
