On the Media host Bob Garfield discusses the 10-year anniversary of the WNYC show On the Media, how technology has transformed the media landscape in the last decade, and what we can expect going forward. He’ll also talk about On The Media’s project Blow The Whistle, a collaboration with Government Accountability Project to uncover the identity of the senator who last December put an anonymous hold on the Whistleblower Protection Enhancement Act (Bill S.372), essentially killing it at the last minute.

To Henry from Katonah: Listen to this show on Talk of the Nation on Feb 17 2011 - Public Broadcasting Funds Caught in Budget Battle. Neal Cohen interviews Rep Lamborn from Colorado, who voted to zero out funding for CPB.
Thank you, Mr. Lopate and Mr. Garfield.
A very good idea to make anti-Semitism unacceptable, like the N-word, and to dedicate a segment to anti-Semitism, the question becomes why is this acceptable now?
The problem is, that our Jewish defense groups, like ADL, AIPAC, AJC, Jewish Congress, Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations etc. wasted a huge political and moral capital on the lost effort to defend the failed Israeli occupation, illegal settlements etc. The moral support against anti-Semitism was wasted in the lost battles against the critics of Israeli policy, racism and malpractice in the Holocaust industry. Glenn Beck, Galliano or Charlie Sheen are grave consequences of these abuses of the struggle against anti-Semitism.
I would like to hear some discussion about this on my favorite shows On The Media and/or Leonard Lopate Show.
"you guys" = wnyc
wow, you guys are really sounding scary. are you on a witch hunt now? You just talked about newscasters being anti-semitic. doesn't anti-semitism mean anti-jewish? what about the rest of the population? what about anti-christian, anti-muslim, anti-black, anti-white, anti-woman, anti-greek, anti-french, anti-polish, anti-Rwandan, anti-arab? Come on you guys! be fair.
Really nice to hear an honest assessment of FoxNews, Glenn Beck, and the current state of the media from Bob Garfield.
In 6 years Glenn Beck will reveal that his show was a performance art piece, taking a Colbert-like persona to a different level. He was going to end it 2 years ago but Obama's election gave him a lot of material to keep it going.

... I can't wait to hear an NPR story where a congressmen who voted to zero out CPB funding is interviewed with the utmost deference and respect.
That would remind me of the story in the Onion where the ACLU defends the right of the arsonist to burn down ACLU headquarters.
The self-profiting sale of HuffPo does indeed reduce the value of the unpaid screeds by freelancers. Their value may have been the prestige and exposure that the site bestowed on its contributors. But its prestige and number of hits have been considerably lowered by the taint of take-the-money-and-run that it has acquired.
Ha! Bob Garfield denigrating Huff Post. As if WNYC doesn't air an enormous amount of crap! Like most popular fora, the Huff Post is varied. David Bromwich is good, for example.
NPR shows and WNYC do not do advocacy ?
Am I not hearing spots where Laura Walker asks us to write or contact our senators because the House has voted to zero out the Corporation for Public Broadcasting?
The current political climate is making me sick! It looks like Grover Nordquist has won - - his "starve the beast method" is working.
Because the GOP has a majority in the House - - I believe NPR helped this happen with its "balanced" reporting , giving credence to tea party nonsense, instead of debunking it.
We are now debating whether CPB is worthy of any federal funds. I refuse to participate in this farce.

The names of the anonymous 5 were read earlier today in a pledge break, & Sen. Risch was 1 of them.
Hey, could we hear this lower-snark version of Bob on OTM? The snark is the 1 thing about the program that turns me off.
Would it be possible to invite all five of the holdout senators onto this show?
