A woman from Sierra Leone took care of an old friend of my father's in his last several years. Having heard about the horrors that had happened there, I asked her a few years ago how things were in her country then, & she said they had gotten much better than they had been in the time when Ms. Forna's book takes place. I was very glad to hear that, & I hope it continues to be the case.
