I live in a 1927 apartment building with steel casement windows. Occasionally, the panes get broken and our co-op can't find a glass company that will replace the glass for LESS than $110-20 per +/- 9" x 12" pane! (Even though there are at least 30-40 in the building that currently need replacement.) Of course, I'd love a referral, but what I'd really like to know is, does this need to be so expensive? Is this a complicated repair???

I have a plumbing issue. The upstairs piping (behind wall) in the shower is leaking. When the center fixture is turned and water comes up the shower head, there is dripping to the lower basement bathroom. When the water is running into the tub and not out of the shower head, there is not dripping to lower bathroom. Only when the water goes to the shower head.

Someone (who will remain nameless) neglected to properly drain our outdoor shower last fall when we closed the spigots under the house for the winter. When we opened the spigots at the beginning of summer, water was shooting out of the sides of the pipes even though the shower was off (because the pipes have burst). We have tried a few quick fixes using some sort of tape bought from one of the large home repair store chains, but there's still a small dripping leak when the shower is not in use. A local plumber in our small Jersey Shore town wants to charge 500 bucks to replace the metal plumbing with pvc, which I think is outrageous for a shower in a wooden shed so small that you can barely turn around in it. Can you make any suggestions before winter comes?
