I had the pleasure of hearing Ms. Raymer give a reading this past weekend at Hampton Books. It's interesting, her social tics and childlike mannerisms do undercut her intelligence. Nonetheless, she is a very, very funny writer and "Lay the Favorite" is a remarkable achievement.

I heard this interview while driving and I was struck by the silkiness of this young woman's voice. I'm not sure if I'll read the book (I've never been much of a gambler) but Lopate, I beg you, please have her as a guest again-- soon!

Agree, she might be a nice person or something, but she doesn't seem prepared to be on the show. Between her upspeak and lack of audible conviction in discussing the subject , I feel like she is getting ogled in the studio, which gives this a rather Howard Stern feel.

I'm sorry: this woman is extremely boring.
