Why Leonard???
Why do you give this man air time? He has ZERO CREDIBILITY and giving him air time is an insult to my WNYC membership.
How convenient. You have an excuse at the ready that absolves you of responsibility when you eff up and lie to your wife, kids and god, if you aren't doing so already. Disgusting! Spit!
Thank Mr. Leonard Lopate for having Mr. Spitzer on your show... you should please have him again for his incredibly informative insights.
If I had the power and the resources? I would single-handed provide rehabilitation and redemption for Mr. Spitzer because he still has so much to offer from New York and all of the United States... I really hope that his public career is not over.
I have been following his re-engagement with public issues from Slate Magazine to television such as Fareed Zakaria GPS etc and now on our very own New York institution, WNYC!
Why are some ever willing to decimate valuable persons such as Mr. Spitzer?
Mr. Spitzer saw the Wall Street/Financial Markets debacles/quagmires ahead of all of America... at least, ten year ahead!
I hope that Mr. Spitzer returns to WNYC and to public service for public good, our common good!
Who am I to judge Mr. Spitzer's moral slip? I am myself imperfect!
Most sincerely,
Paul I. Adujie

well put, DAT--except that sex outside of one's relationship is not the private domain of movers and shakers. it's as common as marriage itself.
but i agree that the loss is ours vis a vis the state of the state. people may not have agreed with spitzer's tactics, so long after the fact, but it may have challenged albany to curb its own inability to keep from ingratiating themselves first.
ferrari--AIG a "great company"? i don't know what's more laughable: that you think this to be true, or that someone can balance the whole of his career on bringing them down. we should have let them bring themselves down--that's one competency they clearly possess.
Eliot Spitzer joins the ranks of American
Movers and Shakers, who have sexual relationships outside of their marriage.
Such as: JFK, LBJ, Eisenhower,Clinton,
RFK, MLK, just to name a few.
Frankly, their personal life, should be their
personal business, between themselves
and their spouse.
I think NYS lost the most dynamic,
intelligent, articulate, incredible governor,
when Eliot Spitzer was kicked out for
doing what most men do.
Martial Fidelity is overrated.
To lose someone like Eliot Spitzer is
criminal, and did the people of NY a lot
of damage.
We would be in a much better financial spot,
today, had Eliot Spiter remained as
albany as governor.
We are indeed, fortunate, that he comes
on shows like Lenny Lopate and others,
so we can hear what he has to say.
The Bible was written by a bunch of old men,
and has little to do with anything going on
today.
Nobody walks on water, or they would drown.
Nobody that is nailed to two pieces of wood,
survives.
There are no virgin births.
You live through your DNA, your children,
if you have any.
seth, darling, i don't have any issues with his work while in office--they need to be considered separately from his personal failings. if we couldn't do that, NO ONE would serve. when has hubris not played a part in running for office? keep dreaming about mr. smith going to washington.
i really don't care about his preferences in the bedroom, and they have nothing to do with what he is here to discuss. prostitution exists for reasons mature people can and should discuss--it also escapes any effective legal framework. ask yourself why that is. it doesn't exist for the rich and powerful alone.
as a man, you have no right to assume what should be outrageous to me as a woman. what makes you so self-righteous, seth? if you're bothering to listen to something that works you into such a lather, it's clear you haven't found something more constructive to do with your life.
It is not about the sexual interest, it is the unequal punishment.
where's the outrage for those still allowed to serve in albany? get off of spitzer's guilt--that ship has sailed. start opening your eyes to the inertia and corruption that are setting fire to your tax dollars. or is it more satisfying to complain about something one can no longer do anything about?
He was a public servant. He violated the public's trust in his office. Personally, I don't care if he's into bestiality, just don't run for office. Remain a private citizen, creep. It has nothing to do with hang ups #32. Gee whiz.
And please spare mus the biblical crap! I'll cast a stone at whoever the hell I want. As a woman, I guess you're O.K. with prostitution and all that entails. Creeps like Spitzer get chance after chance after chance. Spin and polish.
Who cares if Spitzer's a hypocrite; he's not in office and was thrown out because he was.
We're now listening to him talk about the loose regulation and deregulation that he fought as Attorney Gen., which policies can be partly named as one of the causes the Great Recession and nearly led to a second Great Depression.
I think people like John who care more about peccadilloes of out-of-power politicians who don't make policy want to change the subject so that he and other like-minded (right-wing, neoliberal) have to face NO regulations whatsoever so the wealthy powers-that-be continue to dominate average people's lives.
Mikey, it was a puff piece to push his agenda. Len was puppet on a string.
i missed the beginning. Did Leonard ask him any tough questions about his betrayal of his family and the public?
Response to No. 2
nycourts.gov says he Spitzer is still admitted as an attorney.

Len ask a hard question, money talks I guess.
it's not for any of us to insist on atonement on mr. spitzer's part--the fall from his mantle and all that entails is certainly something to endure, and when any of you is without sin, cast the first stone.
and if you don't think he was brought down by the very industry he was going after, then you don't understand how much leverage corporations (in this case, banks and wall street) have over government action. need you more evidence to accept that?
that said, i am always happy to hear what mr. spitzer has to say. put aside your personal hangups and listen as a citizen. spitzer's attempts to shed light on what so many think is murky and impossible to solve is a fine way for him to serve his fellow citizens in a meaningful way. i thank him for his vigilence.
I'm disappointed that WNYC is giving this man a platform. After his despicable behavior--which needs no elaboration from me or anyone else--he should be forgotten. It's tough to hear his voice and not think about what he did to his family and the public he was serving.
Leonard: Why are you giving this sleaze free pr in his rehabilitation campaign? he should just go away!
Go away whoremonger. You are bad for New York, bad for women and bad for your family. Go serve your penance and get off of MY public radio station. Have you NO shame?
I will not renew membership thanks to you and Leonard.
I'm sorry that a former public servant who behaved so despicably--disappointing and embarrassing those who voted for and put their trust in him--is being given a platform on WNYC. We should be having this conversation with someone else.
Frivolous?! - this very bright man lost his governorship over his 'frivolous' acts.
Money is not speech.
Why is Elliot Spitzer being given any talk time? He doesn't deserve it.
Ask Eliot if Wall St. is as dirty as his Daddy's real estate business?
Len, ask some hard questions, make believe George W. Bush is being interviewed. You would not stick to the subject, you would open up on him.
Bernanke has NOT learned. He still denied any responsibility for the bubble in his confirmation hearings.
I cannot believe that you are interviewing Eliot Spitzer. I know he has info regarding your topic but he shouldn't being given serious ocnsideration any longer.

John, I doubt a public, wealthy black man in this society be allowed to come back from this kind of a scandal.]]
wrong. magic johnson. michael vick. michael jackson. and, soon enough, tiger woods. they tee off at the masters in two months.
fwiw, i think spitzer is a creep. but if lenny thinks he deserves a half hour on the air, i'll give the guy with a quarter-century of experience the benefit of the doubt.
The FCIC hearings to date have been a waste of time. The commishes aren't up to the job. The banksters walked all over them.
The only good so far was when a witness knew what s/he was talking about and was not afraid to outloud it. Two examples: the ex-Bear Sterns guy who told them they were bust if home prices levelled, and they ignored him. The other was the TX AG who told them how the federal regulators, esp the OCC, took power away from the state regulators for the specific purpose of not enforcing regulations.
After wanting to see AIG's emails with the Fed, can we also see the Spitzer's emails relating to AIG to judge how he gin up his charges and abused his power in office.
Spitzer had no foresight as he's trying to represent but merely was preparing his political future on the back of great company.
I agree with dagwood I DON'T CARE ABOUT HIS SEX LIFE. However, I really hate the fact the he has a platform for any issue at this time. How disgusting that he can blab on about what he calls an avoidable situation. Hey Elliot your resignation was avoidable. Give me a break WNYC.
Lots of frivolous comments. Remember, you don't have to listen to Spitzer if you find his behavior objectionable and his opinions of no value.
Paul, you are a plant, for the episode. What about the hypocracy, the criminal behavior.
The former Governor and former Attorney General of the state of New York, Elliot Spitzer Esquire, was the indefatigable corruption fighting Godzilla of corporate avarice, greed and corruption!
And nothing, no amount of rewriting of history or revisionism should deprive Mr. Spitzer of the credit which he richly deserves.
Mr. Spitzer, in his fight against corporate corruption, before the Wall Street or Financial Markets debacle and the consequent Economic Meltdown and debacle befell the United States and by extension, the entire world
The major anti corruption campaign which was undertaken by Mr. Elliot Spitzer, the then Attorney General of the state of New York have been unheralded and unspoken of in the aftermath of the current economic crises. And that is quite sad. Mr. Spitzer deserves our gratitude and our thunderous applause and gratitude for his vision.
Mr. Spitzer saw AIG and others, long before the rest of the world did!
Mr. Elliot Spitzer, the former Governor and former Attorney General for the state of New York, was a brilliant politician with all the savvy anyone could ask of him.
He is, in my view, a public official with extraordinary foresight. He is a public policy juggernaut.
He is a visionary. He saw corporate frauds in America from 10,000 miles away!
He literarily saw that the economic meltdown which we are now enmeshed, years before it was foisted upon all of us. He saw it coming and told us, of the danger of corporate wrongdoings.
Thank you Mr. Spitzer!
Most sincerely,
Paul I. Adujie

Dagwood, I don't care about his sexual interest either. I do care about a double standard. There were crimes committed, and it appears he got a pass, as long as he resigned. You or I would be disbarred and prosecuted.
This is not about sex it is about crime.
Dagwood, he did break laws and prosecuted people for the same crime. He is the hypocrite
SHORT VERSION:
Here is what has not been discussed publicly: Obama and the Dems agreed to have the American people pay for the financial recovery by allowing the banks to charge outrageous interest rates on credit cards while banks borrow at near zero from the Fed.
LONG VERSION:
Here is what has not been discussed publicly: the Obama Administration and the Congressional Democrats agreed to have the American people pay for the financial recovery not through bail-outs (that's just future crushing debt for unborn generations to deal with and ultimately default on) but by such things as: 1) allowing the banks to charge outrageous interest rates on credit cards while banks borrow at near zero from the Fed; 2) allowing all financial "services" firms to act like legal loan sharks and confiscate any equity Americans have left in their investments; and 3) enabling firms like Goldman Sachs to keep changing (quietly) their legal entity status (non-bank holding company to bank holding back to non-bank holding) whenever it suits them so they get their money back from AIG, while the American people get to hold the time bomb that will go off and simultaneously paying the bombmaker's bonuses. Our thanks to: Barry, Timmy, Larry, Nancy, Barney and Chrissy.
John, I doubt a public, wealthy black man in this society be allowed to come back from this kind of a scandal.
Additionally Paterson's liasons, or the governor from South Carolina. If he aint doin' it to you, who cares?????????
I DONT CARE ABOUT HIS SEXUAL INTERESTS. And Lenny dont ask him that. Apparently Akena and John amongst others seem to be upset Spitz is having more sex than they are. And attention to detail folks, he didnt use state money, he used his own money. And he didnt break any laws, maybe moral ones but then again we live in a war-mongering society so who are we to throw stones?
I m tired of you repressive types always bringing up peoples personal business in an holier than thou context. I dont care about Jon Edwards, Spitzer, Chris Rock, Tiger Woods and their PERSONAL lives. The ONLY time this has been relevant in the political aspect is that of Strom Thurman who ran as a segregationist presidential candidate all the while being the father(of at least one black child)...additionally the woman who bore that child was 16 years old at the time she had it(making Thurman a statutory child rapist as well). But we dont look at that crusty piece of bread do we?
Hypocrites....
I dont agree on the color issue, he is just wealthy, green negates white or black.
How's Client # 9 doing these days? Akena, you are absolutely right of course - color AND class.
Akena, it is because of his class, he would have been disbarred, if he were anyone else.
What does Governor Spitzer think about the recent Supreme Court case of Citizens United v. FEC?
Len, ask Mr Spitzer if he is still admitted to practice law. He was the sherif of wall street and went after escourt services and wall street corruption. All of this while he broke the law. As a Lawyer myself, I would like to know how he would have handled me doing the same criminal acts he did, and if I would still have my license, i seriously doubt it.
Please ask the governor is he is in rehab for sex addiction or for deception addiction. Ask him if, when he was having risky sex with his prostitutes, did he think he could have been bringing deadly diseases back to his wife. Ask him if he used state money to pay for his whores. Ask him why should anyone believe his pontifications on any subject. And finally, ask yourself, WNYC, why you think it is okay to perpetrate the practice of "failing upwards" by giving a stamp of approval to disgraced, discredited, ethics breakers and/or law breakers by having them as guests on your programme. Ask yourself if it's because of his colour or class. You're welcome.
