Paris Under Water
Tuesday, February 02, 2010
On the occasion of the hundredth anniversary of the 1910 Paris flood, Jeffrey H. Jackson discusses what happened when torrential rainfall swelled the Seine and saturated the soil, and faulty engineering caused drowned streets, homes, businesses, and museums. His book Paris Under Water: How the City of Light Survived the Great Flood of 1910 tells the story of how Parisians came together to confront the crisis.
Event: Jeffrey Jackson will be speaking and signing books

This was a very interesting interview with Prof. Jackson. It made the book more exciting as I continue to read the chapters.
Thank you for this question & answer session & for delving into a much forgotten area of French history.
Certainly enjoyed the informative talk with your guest Jeffrey Jackson conerning his new book "Paris Under Water" This is a part of history that we know little about. Thank you for the interview and bringing a book worth reading to our attention.
Les Miz? I was thinking Phantom of the Opera--the Lon Chaney version, of course! The movie was made in 1925, 15 years after the flood, but the Gaston Leroux novel it was based on was written in 1911, only one year after it. Don't know if there was any connection....
