A psychological novel inspired by the naturalist style of Zola and the innovative characterizations of Flaubert, this "novel of The Hague" presents readers with an entire society while simultaneously questioning its values.

Thank you so very much. A Dutch friend sent me this book-it took a while to start it, but then I could not put it down. The term 'flowery language' used by Ina Rilke was just the term I was looking for and couldn't think of to describe the feeling of the book to friends. It was the richness of the descriptions that was so wonderful. How could a 26 year old man do this?? Impressive.
