Fabulous! Just fabulous, Mr. Baker. Everything you had to say was just wonderful -- including your final tip giving props to Dr. Seuss for his impeccable scansion.

But you're thinking a *little* too hard about why poets rhyme...How about -- it's what they hear?

Rhyme and meter was a device used as a mnemonic by the singer of tales. Many uncontestably great poets rhymed sometimes and sometimes did not.
