Really enjoyed the interview, especially the conversation about the dynamics of interviewing which I do for research purposes. I look forward to reading the book!
German's not laughing at innappropiate things?
Mr. Klosterman haven't your heard of Schadenfreude?
I have an acquaintance who talks using that 'lubricating' kind of laughter, but he uses it to make the (unfunny) things he says 'funny'--he obviously thinks he's funny, and so do some of the onlookers, but if you just listen to the words, it's so. not. funny.
'Kloster' means monastery in German, and in German the word rhymes more with 'toaster' than 'Gloucester.' So there you go.
