Getting It Through My Thick Skull

Tuesday, July 28, 2009

Mary Jo Buttafuoco's quiet life as a suburban wife and mother on Long Island ended in May 1992, when she was shot in the head on her front porch by her husband's teenage lover, Amy Fisher. The media circus that erupted following the "Long Island Lolita" saga has not yet died down. Mary Jo stood by her husband, Joey Buttafuoco, while he and Amy Fisher provided years of tabloid headlines. In Getting It Through My Thick Skull: Why I Stayed, What I Learned, and What Millions of People Involved with Sociopaths Need to Know, Mary Jo Buttafuoco explains why she stayed with her husband for so long, and what prompted her to eventually leave him and start a new life.

Her subject was enlightening and am glad to hear she is doing so well. (Shame on those jaded comments above from people who sound prejudiced to me ). Best wishes to her.

I think this is an interesting conversation, btw. Other times I switch the thing I'm looking at. She sounds like a good person.

When I heard she was on, I thought "tabloid.....who cares?". I was also going to turn this off, but I work from home.
I'm glad I didn't. I'm glad she's stepped forward......she's smart, interesting, sane.....and becomes a real person....NOT any sort of crazy reality show tabloid charicature like the other two. It's almost like two different worlds.
Good luck to her and thanks for doing the interview.

For Mary Jo - not for the radio but if you pass things along - an interesting thing is EFT, a form of acupuncture - harmless but very helpful when nothing else works - emofree.com - fascinating. Might help with weirdness, can't hurt.

Hi Leonard,

I was wondering what Mary thinks about the recent Steve Mc Nair incident? and if she sees any similiarities with her case? Thank you.

Has she been following the case of Drew Peterson, the suburban Chicago police officer whose wife disappeared and is presumed dead?

Leonard, I remember the shooting left her with a speech impediment. How long did her physical therapy go on and did it include helping her correct her speech?

She was unaware - what baloney! She didn't want to know. I have known many women like her in my life and these women who stand by their husbands and say they didn't know DISGUST me. Don't enable and look away and then play victim.
