Mr. Dickey just made a comment that Carlos Guiliani, the lone protester shot and killed during the 2001 G8 Genoa meeting was "about to bash the head in" of the policeman that shot him. This is absolutely not true and decisively proven by photographs of the shooting, in which said officer was clearly and well inside the jeep that the bullet came from. Guliani was throwing a fire extinquisher AT THE JEEP, not the policeman.

Mr. Dickey should get his facts strait.

Oh my God - I can't believe he called the Genoa shooting self defense. The man killed was not bashing in a cop's brains with a fire extinguisher, he was holding it as if he were about to throw it in the direction of a police vehicle before he was shot and run over twice.

The technology that he speaks echos that of the satellite technology that was used in the Denzel Washington Movie DejaVu. Right down to the heat shadow technology. So fantasy has an insight into reality.

Your guest certainly earlier used the Genoa death as an excuse for the NYPD overreaching during the Repub Convention arrests.

This man is an apologist for the NYPD - his characterization of the 2004 RNC arrests is astonishing.

I support NYPD having every single thing they need to catch criminals and terrorists and violent protesters. More cameras, more snipers, more police on the streets, thank you very much.

Also, your guest mentioned the topic of the death in Genoa without mention it was a protester and that the deadly force came from the authorities.

Have to agree he seems to have taken sides in this, and is not free with actual facts.

Please let the listeners know that the death in Genoa during the G8 protests was bcz police shot a protester--and then drove over him twice with a Land Rover.

"On July 20, a 23-year-old activist Carlo Giuliani of Genoa, was shot dead by Mario Placanica, a Carabinieri officer, during clashes with police. Images show him throwing a fire extinguisher at the carabinieri's vehicle before he was shot and then run over twice by the Land Rover. Placanica was acquitted from any wrong-doing, as judges determined he fired in self defence and to the sky but a flying stone deflected the bullet and killed Giuliani.[3]

Activist Susanne Bendotti was struck by a vehicle and killed while attempting to cross the French-Italian border at Ventimiglia to get to the Genoa demonstration.[4]"

I hope that Leonard won't let this apologist whitewash the unbelievable overreaching of the NYPD under the rubric of the "war on terror".

If the NYPD (or the FBI, or the CIA for that matter) were actually busting up terrorists' plots, they would be shouting it from the rooftops. Since they cannot document successes, an intelligent observer can only deduce that this is a farce: "security theater".

Their logic is like saying "I keep an elephant gun in my living room to ensure I don't get trampled by an elephant. It must be working because I haven't seen any elephants!"

At the RNC in New York, over 1300 people were detained in inhumane conditions, most for 36 hours or more.
It does no one credit to mis-state or underestimate violations of civil rights!

This guy has an odd case of tunnel vision. It is impossible to say that NYC is the biggest locale for terrorism. Has he heard of any major city in, oh say, Israel? Has he heard of Baghdad?

He kinda damages his credibility when he forces us to view all his statements in light of his basic misunderstanding of terrorism.

If the NYPD discovers a plot involving nine terrorists, you arrest them and anyone who may have aided them in any way. If those nine terrorists, however, start lobbing crude rockets from their tiny sliver of land which has been occupied and strangled under embargos managed by the NYPD, well then the NYPD shouldn't use white phosphorus and DIME weapons and cluster bombs to retaliate.

please ask about that major waste of tax dollars when the NYPD drives around the city in the 10-15 car parade with sirens blasting daily.
I guess it's designed to make people feel safe, makes me think of the budget crisis (and global warming)
I also hear it's federal dollars that pay the bill. guess it helps the economy and slows traffic in the city so that makes it a little better.

Please ask Mr. Dickey, “Should the NYPD counterterrorism division respond to terror threats in a proportional manner?” For example, if the NYPD discovers a terrorist plot consisting of nine terrorists, should the NYPD only dedicate nine officers to the case?

Recently, I have heard WNYC hosts and reporters suggest that Israel should respond to terrorism only in a proportional manner. So I am just wondering if you are going to hold the United State’s counter terrorism efforts to the same limitations and standards that Israel is held to. Or will WNYC hold Israel to a different standard then everyone else?
