What a knock-out lady!
Mendelssohn is terrific!
I am a big fan of Ms. Mutter. I want to thank her for her superb Mozart violin sonata recitals at Carnegie a few years ago. They were revelatory, and a friend of mine and I have been working on several of the sonatas, where we often wonder "How would Anne-Sophie and Lambert play this?"
Could Ms. Mutter comment on Mendelssohn's importance as a transitional composer and importance in particular to Wagner's development, even though Wagner was loath to admit Mendelssohn had any great influence on him?
Thanks.
Mendelssohn may have been the most prodigious of all the great composers. His young works were true masterpieces at a younger age I believe even than Mozart.
