one has to look back to the early 80's at that momment when the choice of either working or stay at home no longer became a choice because of the
economic pressures that necessitated a two income family

I have 3 daughters, ages 11, 14, and 16, and while I've always worked full time, I find it much more difficult being away from my kids now that they are teens (or nearly so). It's so much more nerve wracking, and I feel very torn about not being available during these "precarious" times.
