How sad to think I missed the 25th anniversary screening of my favorite movie! I remember reading a profile of Al Gore in Esquire magazine when he made his first run at the Democratic nomination. He listed his faborite movie as "Local Hero."

Local Hero is one of my all-time favorites. I have been trying to find a DVD here in Europe but so far no luck. Last Monday I was in my local recycling store and what do I see: A video of Local Hero. (I don't even have a video player!) For just 50 euro cents! Just could not resist although I don't have a video player. Or a TV.
I guess I just have to get one of those TV's with video player built in. Perhaps at that same recycling store ;-)
Local Hero is a treasure. I still use that phrase: I want reports. Detailed reports.
One other tidbit: Always loved Burt Lancaster. The very first time I connected to the internet (I was living in Hoboken, NJ at that time) was the day Burt Lancaster died. I heard it on the internet. When was it? October 20 1994. That's how long I have been on the internet.

Ha! Sue I was writing in to talk about the soundtrack also! I went through a big Mark Knopfler phase and got a copy of the soundtrack... I think that was one of the first times I realized that once I got rid of lyrics in my background music I could perform other tasks more easily. I loved it! So that lead me to the actual movie, which was also very lovely. I quote Gregory's Girl once every year or so around cold season - "You know, when ya sneeze, it comes out'a yer nose at over a hundred miles an hour!" Another fun old movie.

I LOVE THIS MOVIE>>>>has always been one of my favorites, and i feel like i am the only person who knows about it....

Loved Peter Reigert and Denis Lawson in the film as well as the music by Mark Knofpler--i have the sound track

also in the current economic climate with the greediness of Wall St, the sentiments of the film are still true!!!!

Also, 'Comfort and Joy', which isn't even available on DVD as far as I know.

"Local Hero' is a perfect movie; it's the equivalent of comfort food, in the best sense.

"Local Hero" is a fine, fine film.

Also from Forsyth, two years earlier, is "Gregory's Girl". It is just as good but smaller. Sadly, it is generally overlooked.
