Wine with BBQ is ridiculous. Beer or Soda are the only real pairings, or wine with a lot of residual sugar (red or white). Real BBq is smoky and salty and works best with a sweet counterpart.

I find the problem with many of the California Chardonnay makers is that they produce "oak bombs"that overpower food

Try the Kistler chards if you can get them.

Pairing is so subjective...
