I have to second Joseph's comment about Dave Hickey: not a novelist, but an incisive social and cultural observer.
Just heard Brock and Lopate talk about books/writers that came out of Las Vegas. No mention of Dave Hickey, author of Air Guitar (among others). Dude is king!
