Hate Crime and Racism in Russia, Part I
Thursday, October 04, 2007
Three years ago, the brutal murder of a 9-year old Tajik girl in Saint Petersburg turned international attention to the rise of neo-fascist groups and hate crime in Russia. Since then, the situation has not only gotten worse, it’s also fallen off the mainstream media radar. Attacks are up 28% since 2006, and many observers think the actual number of crimes is even greater. On the first part of Underreported, Leonard will be speaking with Paul LeGendre, Interim Director of the Fighting Discrimination Program at Human Rights First, and Nickolai Butkevich, Research and Advocacy Director at the Union of Councils for Jews in the Former Soviet Union.

You miss the point.
Putin will vote himself in as 'Prime Minister' and then give himself more power then the President - surprise!
Russians are more violent than anyone- to anybody for any reason.
They are such animals.
Too bad so many speak perfect American english....

very strange comments indeed
looks like only some freaks and/or antisemites were interested enough to make comments
alex, your proposal to visit russia sounds sarcastic, but there is no sense in it. if a person doesn't see something she or he wont see it even staying face to face
concerning luzhkov, i bloody don't care who he is and what is his wife's family name. you're racists. he is a mayor and i hate him as a mayor.
viva antifa
To Dimitri: you should check your sources before posting - Kaz is the family name of Luzhkov's wife who runs the business in that family.
And I don't think Jews suffer much from discrimination here - it's mostly Chechens, Tajiks, Azerbaijanians, Georgians - called "blacks" by many people in this country - who are subject to racist hatred and the situation is getting worse all the time with racists essentially being encouraged by the government's nationalist policy.
Interesting story and particularly the second part with Paul Goble. One thing... mayor of Moscow Yury Luzhkov is an ethnic Jew‧ish not Russian. His real family name is Kaz.
Jews can leave Russia if it is such a terrible place and go to Israel, US, Germany (surprisingly a very popular country for Jewish immigrants, more popular then Israel), Canada, UK, Australia just to name a few. Russians have only Russia that is it for them. By the way, why so many Jews in the Forbs richest people in Russia list?
It is probably just another anti-Semitic magazine, shame on them.
Let's discuss the suffering and persecution of Christians!
Nero!
The Saracens!
(cricket)....(cricket)....(cricket)....
OK, well thank you very much and now on to David Hyde Pierce....
What a clever sarcastic statement… I’m in awe. What do you propose to discuss instead, Sally?
I suggest you visit Russia sometime and perhaps you will be lucky to come across some of the Neos. I bet your outlook will be slightly altered.
Cool let's do another story about suffering Jewish people and anti-semitism
