I missed the interview with Norman Lloyd, but wondered if he spoke at all about a radio program he directed in 1934, called "The Players". I am curious about this, as my mother acted under his direction on this program from 1934-1936, when she was 16-18 years old.

I really enjoyed the interview with Mr. Lloyed. I remember him, as Pvt. Archimbeau, in Lewis Milestone's "A Walk in the Sun"...a WWII movie with great character development (he got killed in the movie). Also as Mr. Letterblair in Martin Scorsese's "Age of Innocence".

Love Mr Lloyd's "mid-Atlantic" accent! Brian Lehrer did a show discussing this linguistic phenomenon a while back, where he talked to linguist William Labov, as I recall. There is an article about it here on wikipedia:

As the article says...FDR, Kate Hepburn, George Plimpton, former NJ Gov. Thomas Kean, William F. Buckley spoke in that upper-crusty, vaguely British-sounding accent that Mr. Lloyd exemplifies. Except he admits that he is originally from the working classes and adopted the affectation it for acting--the other people mentioned grew up as part of the East Coast WASP establishment and may have grown up speaking that way. His speech pattern also reminds me of John Lovitz' character on SNL..."Master Thespian"...after a hammy performance, he would declaim the name of his profession...."ACTING!"

I'm curious to know if Mr. Lloyd has done well for himself financially. What kind of money was he making at the beginning of his career and what does he command today?
