Secret History of the War on Cancer
Thursday, November 15, 2007
In the fight against cancer, finding the causes are just as important as finding the cure. Epidemiologist Dr. Devra Davis says that the war on cancer has been misguided for too long…and that it’s been led by people with ties to industries that make cancer-causing products. Dr. Davis is director of the University of Pittsburgh's Center for Environmental Oncology; her new book is The Secret History of the War on Cancer.
Weigh in: Have you made any lifestyle changes with the specific intent of helping to prevent cancer?
Event: Devra Davis will be speaking and signing books

H Cohen,
This Businessweek article has some information:

"Bluetooth radios operate at much lower power levels than phones so, not surprisingly, the radiation added by a Bluetooth headset is insignificant by comparison."
I'm still not convinced that bluetooth and wifi are harmless, but I guess cell phones are more of a concern.
My daughter's school issues wireless laptops to all students in grades 7 thru 12.
All the girls, like most teenagers, are incredibly 'computer-centric' - they complete all classes and homework online and also indulge in hours of online socializing.
Is there any research to show possible harmful health effects and future fertility risks to young women?
I find it very frustrating that so much funding goes to finding cures for prventable diseases (smoking + lung cancer for example) - while conditions such as celiec and IBS and other auto-immune syndromes are not given greater attention.
Further as long as the tobacco industry continues - the funding for treating lung cancer is secured. I struggle to understand how this can be tolerated in our society!
Maybe we should all move to Europe, where there are real consumer protection agencies.

Why is the 2.4GHz frequency hopping microwave RF energy from a Bluetooth device stuck on one's ear less harmful than the 800MHz or 1.9GHz RF energy from the cell phone itself?
If cell phone / cell tower radiation is dangerous, is bluetooth radiation or wifi radiation also dangerous? What other electromagnetic radiation in our environment should we be concerned about?
hey, i heard on wnyc this week that new york city is sponsoring a program to give schoolchildren cell phones to encourage them to study after school. sounds like a bad idea considering the data about cell phones.
Is there not benzine and benzene, and is not one more dangerous than the other?
Do they not use trichloroethane for dry cleaning which is a known carcinogen?
