Nearly one in ten Americans over the age of 12 have been classified with substance dependence or abuse. A new documentary series on HBO examines the causes and consequences of addiction. Directors Jon Alpert and Liz Garbus talk about their documentaries. They’re joined by Dr. Mark Willenbring, from the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, and Dr. Nora Volkow from the National Institute on Drug Abuse.
