Urgent Question: My basement dehumidifier died just after warranty expired: smelled like burning metal first.
Didn't have extended warranty :(
Now, I can't figure out what to get!! How do I find a reliable brand? I'm rather financially challenged, so the cadillac of dehumidifiers is not on my list... thanks, Ruth

What about stand-alone air conditioners? Are they effective? Are they energy efficient? What is the best and worst usage scenario?

If paint will not stick to either plaster, or brick (keeps peeling off) try adding a little bit of liquid tile grout adhesive to the paint. It does not take too much, and it will really hold.
