Ms. O'Neill twice used the word "catholic" as an adjective meaning "close-minded". Mr. Lopate did not comment on the usage, but my dictionary defines "catholic" as "universal", "liberal", or "broadminded". Is this new? I hope it isn't a reference to a perceived state of mind peculiar to Catholics.
