Eliot Weinberger explores the ancient beliefs of the Mandaeans--a Gnostic sect in Iraq that follows John the Baptist--in the May issue of Harper’s. Dr. Suhaib Nashi, a co-founder of the Mandaean Human Rights Group, tells us about some of the modern human rights challenges facing the Mandaeans--from killings, to rape, forced conversions, and displacement.

I did not knew that we where recorded in the new Testament? thanks for this info.!!
even if we did not agree with Jesus in some things but we share with Christianity many more things. our hope is to live in peace with others and follow our believes with out others to discriminate against us.
In the New Testament, the followers of John the Baptist are recorded as calling Jesus a drunkard and a glutton. The two apparently fell apart over asceticism, with Jesus taking a more moderate stance.
