In the past year, China has been hit by a wave of rural protest and violence…perhaps the worst in three decades. Will the Boat Sink the Water, an English translation of a book that’s been embargoed in China, reports that many Chinese continue to live in a feudal-like system that hasn’t changed since the fifteenth century. On today’s Underreported, Joanne Wang, an agent who was instrumental in getting the book published here in the U.S., and Professor Perry Link from Princeton, describe the living conditions of China's 900 million peasants.
