Is climate change making hurricanes more frequent, and more powerful? Did global warming make Hurricane Katrina so destructive? We’ll talk to Ted Steinberg of Case Western Reserve University and Kerry Emanuel of MIT. Ted Steinberg teaches social and environmental history. His books Down to Earth: Nature's Role in American History and Acts of God: The Unnatural History of Natural Disaster in America were both nominated for Pulitzer Prizes. Kerry Emanuel, Professor of Earth, Atmospheric, and Planetary Science at MIT, is the author of Divine Wind: The History and Science of Hurricanes. He also recently published a paper on the relationship between global warming and hurricanes which appeared in the 7/31 issue of Nature.
