Murder in Mexico

Almost 400 women have been killed in Ciudad Juarez and Chihuahua City since 1993. On today's Underreported feature, we’ll find out why it's likely that the killers remain free, while the killings continue and innocent people may be behind bars. We’ll hear from Laurie Freeman, Associate for Mexico and Security Policy at WOLA (Washington Office on Latin America), and Guadalupe Morfin, a federal commissioner appointed by Vicente Fox to investigate the killings. She has dismissed Chihuahua's previous investigation of the slayings as a facade and an apparent cover-up.

It's true; this topic was underreported in the United States. An investigative book, "The Killing Fields:Harvest of Women" by Diana Washington Valdez (see her blog at www.dianawashingtonvaldez.blogspot.com) seeks to correct the void. It's a terrific and frightening expose. - M.O.
