Antonin Careme (1783–1833) was Europe’s most famous chef by the time he was in his late 20s. He cooked for royals and nobles and even baked Napoleon’s wedding cake.
Ian Kelly has written a new biography of the man – it’s called Cooking for Kings: The Life of Antonin Careme, the First Celebrity Chef.
