The art of Constantinople and the Eastern Orthodox church had an important influence on the Islamic world and the Latin-speaking West, and especially on the development of the Renaissance. The Metropolitan Museum of Art is currently showing works from the Byzantine civilization in an exhibit called "Byzantium: Faith and Power (1261–1557)," through July 4th. Helen Evans is curator.
